My husband and I started dating 7 years ago which in an age when things move as fast as they do now, is basically in a different lifetime. What we understood by “top romantic restaurants in Barcelona” was very different than we like now. But we were both at the beginning of our careers, ready to conquer the world but with emptier bank accounts than we liked to admit. Even so, there were some things we´d never say no to, like date night each week, preferably on Wednesdays so it would “break” the working week. No matter the budget, there would always be a place in Barcelona where we´d run off to on Wednesday evenings.
We live close to Sagrada Familia and there aren´t that many romantic restaurants near us so we hop on a scooter and go to the city center.
Don´t wanna be THAT kind of person but generally the more you earn, the more you spend so our date-nights went through a few phases. This is a list of my perfect date-night places where you´re going to spend a bit more than usual. I´ll be back with a more easy-going, affordable list soon!
Alba Granados is my favorite restaurant in town and has a big sentimental value to me because we came here many times to celebrate birthdays or special occasions. Not only are the atmosphere and service impeccable but the food is to die for! We always get a huge steak which is brought out in small, smoked pieces and with a hot stone where you prepare the meat as you wish. They´ve recently changed the chef and as much as I loved the old one, the one has come with some great additions to the menu. We tried his specialties as an entree and they were amazing so don´t be afraid to try things that aren´t on the menu.
La Dama is definitely another of my favorites and to me, one of the most romantic restaurants in the world because it feels like you´re going back in time for the evening. First, there´s the entrance: someone welcomes you at the entrance of the building, joins you until the door of the restaurant which he opens with a key. The restaurant is in an apartment, on the ground floor of a beautiful building in one of the main streets of Barcelona – Diagonal Street. When you go in, it´s like you go back in time to the 30´. The jazzy music, the dark wood, the dim lights, the pictures on the wall which have that vintage look to them, it all tells a story and you´re part of it. The food is delicious, don´t hesitate to try anything on the menu, you´ll love it.
